We have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks putting systems in place in order to ensure the safety of our staff and customers, so your next visit will be a bit different from the last. Please see below our new "HOUSE RULES". As above, these will be reviewed regularly so please check back as often as possible for updates.
We are now taking bookings. Please email us initially (firstname.lastname@example.org) to book your table. We will also take bookings over the phone on 0131 225 7440 from Thursday 30th July. We will accept walk ins (space permitting) but as we are tight on space, we recommend booking in advance to guarantee your spot.

We will need a £10/person deposit to secure the booking. Bookings will only be confirmed once deposit has been received. Deposit will be non-refundable.

Our new menus are available on our website, we will not have physical menus for the time-being.
We are taking part in the governments "EAT OUT TO HELP OUT" scheme, which gives a 50% discount per person (up to a max of £10) on food and non-alcholic drinks Monday - Wednesday throughout August. The discount will be automatically applied to your bill.
We will be continuing our takeaway service for pizzas and draught beer/cans. We will be using an app for ordering and payment, and orders will be brought outside so there is no need to come inside the building for takeaway. Welcome to The Ensign Ewart Pub, on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
The highest pub in Edinburgh, and the closest to Edinburgh Castle, The Ensign Ewart has a rich history dating back to 1680, when the pub was first established on it's current site. It has changed a bit since then, but it still retains much of its original charm, and always has a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
We have 4 Scottish Cask Ales, a dynamic and ever changing whisky list, a large selection of Scottish gins, live music, a fresh and locally sourced food menu, and of course, the best in Scottish hospitality!
We are located towards the top end of The Royal Mile. There are steps leading up to the pavement outside the pub, however it is level with the road a little further up towards the castle. Please be aware there is a small step at the entrance to the pub, and a single larger step to enter the back section of the pub once inside. A portable wheelchair ramp is available, please ask a member of staff for assistance if required. Unfortunately we do not currently have accessible toilets. If you require further information please phone 01312257440.
